Short CV:
Prof. Mutaz M Qafisheh is an Associate Professor of International Law, the founding and former Dean, Hebron University College of Law and Political Science, Palestine. He holds PhD in International Law from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva, and is a practicing international lawyer, pleads in key cases before the International Criminal Court, Palestinian Constitutional Court and Court of Cassation. He founded the Hebron University 14 legal clinics. He advises a number of global institutions, including the UN, EU, NGOs and PLO Negotiations Office. Qafisheh formerly worked as Human Rights Officer at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Beirut and Ramallah; Director of Legal Education for Palestine Law Schools, USAID, Jerusalem; and Legal Advisor for Palestinian Parliament through a project run by the US State Department. Qafisheh co-founded the Human Rights Program of Al-Quds-Bard Honors College, Jerusalem-New York. He authored and edited six books and some 60 peer-reviewed articles published by top international publishers and journals in, e.g., Oxford, Cambridge, London, Paris, Oslo, New York, Sydney, The Hague, Leiden, Boston and Geneva. He is the most cited law professor in all Palestinian law schools on Google Scholar and holds the most classified law and international relations publications in Palestine by Scopus. Qafisheh’s scholarship relates to international law, humanitarian law, human rights, international criminal law, peaceful settlement of disputes, citizenship, refugees, Israeli-Palestinian conflict, law of the sea, diplomatic and consular law, private international law, clinical legal education, gender, legislative drafting, juvenile justice, Sharia reformation and the rule of law. He is a member of over 20 international professional foundations, including International Law Association (HQ), World Academy for Art and Science and Centre for Palestine Studies of University of Cambridge. He has been elected as chair of the board of trustees of Law for Palestine Organization, UK, and appointed by the Palestinian Council of Ministers as Deputy President (Deputy Minister of Higher Education) of Scientific Research Council. He worked and lectured in over 20 countries across the world. |
