Short CV:

Kirsten Schmalenbach graduated with a law degree from the University of Cologne where, in 2002, she obtained the qualification to teach public law, European Union law and public International law at universities. In 2003, she accepted a post as full professor at the Institute for International Law and International Relations at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz, Austria, a position she held for 7 years. Since 2010, she has been the full professor for International and European Union Law at the ParisLodron-University in Salzburg.
In addition to her professorship positions, she has also served in various positions such as, but not limited to, the head of the International Law Department at the University of Salzburg, a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna, the Chair of the Academic Advisory Board of the Faculty of Law at the University of Jena, a member of the Academic Editorial Board of the International Organizations Law Review and the deputy head of the Austrian Institute for Human Rights.

Professor Schmalenbach has focused on a number of aspects of public international law throughout her career and is recognized for her work in the law of international organizations, international and European development cooperation, the legal sources of international law and the external relations of the European Union. Currently, she is lead researcher on a project on UN tort law in peacekeeping missions which is being funded by the Austrian Science Fund (2021-2023).
