13 December 2021: Thomas Franck Lecture by Paweł FilipekOn 13 December 2021, the Research Group hosted a Thomas Franck Lecture by Dr Paweł Filipek (Krakow University of Economics; Office of the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights) on the topic
"The Constitutional Tribunal’s judgement constitutes a blow to the core of EU law. To permit national authorities to be left with full discretion over the judicial system in contravention of national constitutional norms and European Convention standards and without regard of EU requirements amounts to the destruction of the EU legal order." Dr. Paweł Filipek is assistant professor at Krakow University of Economics and Chief Specialist at the Office of the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights. In the context of his work for the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights, he has been involved in judicial proceedings regarding the European/Polish legal relationship. Dr. Paweł Filipek is an expert in human rights law, with a focus on the law of the European Convention on Human Rights. His further research interests include EU law and public international law, in particular with regard to the law of international organizations and international monitoring mechanisms.
