30 November 2017: Thomas Franck Lecture by Angelika Nußberger
On 30 November 2017, the Research Group hosted a Thomas Franck Lecture by Professor Angelika Nußberger, Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights on the topic
“From high hopes to disillusionment? Human rights protection in Europe in an ever more hostile environment”.
Angelika Nußberger is the German judge at the European Court of Human Rights and since
February 2017 Vice-President of the court. She is a professor for constitutional, international
and comparative law at the University of Cologne where she is also the director of the
Institute of Eastern European Law. From 2004 to 2010, she was member of the Committee of
Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations of the International Labour
Organisation, and from 2006 to 2010 substitute member of the Venice Commission of the
Council of Europe. Her areas of research include the development of the constitutional
jurisdiction, the influence of public international law on the development of the law in central
and Eastern Europe, international social law, and the transformation of the social security
systems in the states of central and Eastern Europe.
