Political economy and the international laws of violence

Together with the Australian National University and Program on International Law and Armed Conflict (Harvard Law School), the research group is hosting a workshop on the topic “Political economy and the international laws of violence” on 28 and 29 September, 2023.


"Global Security and the International Rule of Law"

On 30th May 2022, KFG Fellows Sophie Duroy and Rishi Gulati hosted an online workshop on the notion of global security as understood in public international law, social sciences, political theory, and in practice.


“Research Handbook on International Law and Domestic Legal Systems”

On 18th and 19th June 2021 Helmut Philipp Aust, Heike Krieger and Felix Lange hosted an authors’ workshop in preparation of the book entitled ‘Research Handbook on International Law and Domestic Legal Systems’. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the first exchange on the draft contributions took place via a videoconference.


"Does Digitalisation Create A New Type of International Law?"

On 18 January 2021, Dana Burchardt, together with Maria Varaki (King's College London), hosted an online workshop on digitalisation and international law.


"Systemic Integration Under Disintegrative Stress"

On 12 June 2020, Campbell McLachlan hosted an online symposium on systemic integration and systematicity in international law.


"General Principles of Law"

On 12 and 13 December 2019, Georg Nolte, together with ILC Special Rapporteur Marcelo Vázquez-Bermúdez, hosted a workshop on general principles of law which are currently debated in the scientific discourse and which will be debated in the future ILC work.


"What Type of International Law?"

The kick-off conference for the second funding period of the KFG took place in Potsdam from 26 to 28 September 2019.


“The International Criminal Court in Turbulent Times”

On 31 June and 1 July 2018, Andreas Zimmermann hosted, together with Gerhard Werle, a workshop at the German embassy in The Hague, which brought together experts from both academia and practice in the field of international criminal law.


"Decline or Transformation? Norm Change and Values in International Law"

On 24 and 25 November 2017, Heike Krieger and Andrea Liese hosted the KFG's first workshop. Convening renown scholars from international law international relations, the group discussed from an interdisciplinary perspective how international norms and their underlying values are changing.


"How to Assess the Role of Intl. Law in Today's Changing Global Order?"

The Opening Conference of the Berlin Potsdam Research Group "International Rule of Law - Rise or Decline?" took place in Berlin on 15-16 April 2016.


“Community Interests across International Law”

On 15 and 16 October 2015, Georg Nolte hosted, together with Eyal Benvenisti, an authors’ workshop at Humboldt University Berlin in preparation of the book entitled “Community Interests Across International Law”, published by Oxford University Press in 2018.
